Armaan Malik Opens Up About Brother Amaal: “He’s My Shield and My Sharpest Critic”

In a heartfelt conversation with Filmfare, singer Armaan Malik opened up about the layered relationship he shares with his elder brother, composer Amaal Mallik. Amidst ongoing speculation about tensions within their family, Armaan shed light on the special bond they continue to share — one that swings between sibling affection and intense musical collaboration.

“He’s the Best Brother — and the Toughest Mentor”

Armaan affectionately described Amaal as a doting elder brother outside the studio but a fierce perfectionist once the recording begins. Recalling a recent comment from Amaal — that Armaan is his “baby” personally but someone he “bullies professionally” — Armaan wholeheartedly agreed. “Honestly, I feel like he couldn’t have put it better,” he said.

Inside the studio, Armaan confessed, things are far from soft. “He can make me feel like crap during a recording session,” he laughed. “He’ll tell me ten times, ‘Kya bakwaas gaa raha hai? Wapas gaa.’ (What nonsense are you singing? Sing again.) Until I snap and think, ‘Abhi dikhaata hoon!’ (Let me show you now.) And then I end up nailing it in one take.”

Sibling Rivalry as Fuel for Creative Fire

According to Armaan, these heated moments are never personal — they’re simply part of the artistic process that defines their work ethic. “Our little fights help us push creative boundaries. He has this unique ability to bring out the best in me, even when I don’t realise what I’m capable of,” Armaan said, highlighting the mutual respect and trust that anchors their working relationship.

Amaal’s Public Struggles With Family Dynamics

Back in March, Amaal Mallik publicly spoke about his struggles with clinical depression and the emotional fallout from family-related issues. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he expressed how personal conflicts had taken a toll on his peace of mind and emotional well-being.

He wrote, “I’ve been robbed of my peace, emotionally drained… but what matters most is my mental health.” Amaal also stated that he had chosen to limit his familial interactions strictly to professional ones, emphasizing that the decision wasn’t driven by anger but a step toward healing.

Despite the challenging backdrop, the strong bond between Armaan and Amaal continues to shine — proof that brotherhood can withstand even the harshest storms when built on trust, love, and a shared passion.
