Ed Sheeran Rides Mumbai Auto, Sings Desi Version of ‘Sapphire’

Ed Sheeran Embraces Mumbai Vibes, Sings Punjabi Lyrics in Auto Ride Video

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has once again won hearts — this time by blending global pop with desi flair. In a recent Instagram post, the artist was seen riding through the bustling streets of Mumbai in an auto rickshaw, singing a preview of his upcoming single Sapphire.

While the visual of Sheeran in an Indian auto already had fans buzzing, it was the unexpected Punjabi lyrics that truly stole the show. Singing along with “Cham Cham Chamke Sitare Vargee,” Sheeran gave a delightful twist to his music — and fans couldn’t be more thrilled.

“Riding around the streets of India missing high fives,” he wrote in the caption. “Sapphire out June 5th, 8:30am ET / 1:30pm BST / 6pm IST.” The clip shows Ed in high spirits, interacting with locals and soaking up the Mumbai sun while singing his heart out.

A Desi Chapter in Ed’s Global Music Journey

Ed Sheeran has been teasing Sapphire for weeks, and it’s part of his forthcoming album Play. In a previous post, he shared insights into the inspiration behind the record.

“Play was an album that was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life,” he said. “I just wanted to create joy and technicolour, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring.” He also revealed that the album was finished in Goa, India — a place that clearly had a creative impact on him.

“It’s a real rollercoaster of emotions,” Sheeran added. “It encapsulates everything I love about music — the joy, the playfulness, and where I am right now as a human, partner, and father.”

With Sapphire dropping on June 5, fans are eagerly waiting to see how much more of India’s vibrant culture Ed has infused into his music. One thing’s for sure: the desi love for Ed Sheeran has never been stronger.
