Polling ends as first Shura Council election see large turnout

The first election of Shura Council came to an end as voters turned out in large numbers to cast their votes in the 29 polling stations out of total 30 constituencies as one candidate from Constituency No. 5 is already elected unopposed.

There are 229 candidates, including 26 women, vying for the 30 seats.

The voting process was fast and smooth taking just a few minutes from verification to collecting ballot paper and casting the vote.

“Today, the State of Qatar is witnessing its first elections to select members of the Shura Council, with polling stations designated for each electoral district. Results will be announced this evening,” Qatar’s Government Communications Office (GCO) tweeted.
