Tom Holland Says the Odyssey Felt Like a Re-Enactment

Tom Holland says filming The Odyssey felt more like a “re-enactment” than a typical movie set. The actor, who stars alongside Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron in Christopher Nolan’s epic, described the scale as overwhelming.

Speaking to Extra, Holland recalled arriving at a beach set in Morocco and walking for what felt like miles before spotting the crew. “It was like a boat, thousands of background actors, the Trojan horse, but no crew in sight,” he explained. The vastness made him feel as if he had stepped back in time.
He admitted the experience was unnerving, comparing it to landing on a deserted beach. “It almost felt like I’d gone back in time and just landed there. It surprised me,” Holland said.

The actor also reflected on how extraordinary the opportunity was. He revealed he accepted the role before even reading the script, calling it “the phone call of a lifetime”. For Holland, Nolan’s ambitious vision turned the set into something far beyond a film, a living piece of history.
