The horror-thriller Salmokji: Whispering Water continued to dominate the South Korean box office during April 24-26, earning $2.4 million from 343,461 admissions and securing nearly 40% of weekend revenue. Since its April 8 release, the film has grossed $13.9 million from close to 2 million admissions, ranking eighth worldwide.
Directed by Lee Sang-min, the film stars Kim Hye-yoon and Lee Jong-won as part of a road-view camera crew who encounter chilling supernatural events at a remote reservoir. Its eerie atmosphere and suspenseful storytelling have kept the audience hooked.
Ryan Gosling’s Project hail Mary held second place with just over $1 million, while local comedy-drama Audition 109 debuted in third. Documentary Ran 12.3 opened in fourth, and historical epic The King’s Warden continued its record-breaking run in fifth, now at 16.7 million admissions and $109.6 million revenue.
Other films in the top ten include My Name, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, anime feature Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, the re-release of Kiki’s Delivery Service, and animated sports comedy Goat. Overall weekend grosses reached $6.2 million, slightly down from last week.
