For many young actors, Hollywood often appears as the ultimate dream, filled with fame, glamour, and fortune. Yet Tom Holland transforms that perception by revealing a more complicated reality behind the spotlight.
The Spider-man star, who headlines Marvel’s billion-dollar franchise and will soon appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day admits that Hollywood’s culture unsettles him. Transitioning from admiration to caution, Holland explained on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast: “I really do not like Hollywood, it is not for me. The business really scares me.”
Although he loves filmmaking Holland actively protects himself from fame’s consuming nature. He emphasized that he constantly looks for ways to step back and live a normal life. Moving from career success to personal reflection, he shared how he has witnessed friends lose themselves to the industry. “I’ve seen so many people come before me and lose themselves. I’ve had friends I grew up with who aren’t friends anymore because they’ve lost themselves to this business. My ongoing thought has always been: “Don’t lose yourself.”
Shifting from caution to clarity, Holland revealed that happiness for him lies in family, friends, carpentry, golf, and supporting his mother’s charity. He stressed that these passions keep him grounded and deserve protection. Finally, looking ahead, Holland balances his unease with Hollywood by focusing on projects that excite him. Alongside The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, rumors suggest he may also appear in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, releasing December 18.
