Beau Starr Actor of Halloween and Goodfellas, Dies at 81

Beau Starr, the veteran actor who left his mark both on horror and crime classics, has died at 81. His brother Mike confirmed Starr had passed away of natural causes at his Vancouver home, remembering him as “very unique and special”.

Starr became a fan favourite as Sheriff Ben Meeker in Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, standing firm against Michael Myers. He later shifted genres with a chilling turn in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas as Henry Hill’s abusive father. His film credits stretched across Fletch, Speed, Cinderella Man, Devil in a Blue Dress, and Born on the Fourth of July. 

Television audiences also knew Starr well. He appeared in hits like Knight Rider, MacGyver, Murder She Wrote, and NYPD Blue. His most enduring role came in the BBC’s Due South, where he played Lieutenant Harding Welsh across four seasons. He also starred in NBC’s True Blue as Lieutenant Bill Triplett. 

From sketch comedy beginnings to iconic film and TV roles, Beau Starr built a career defined by range and resilience. His passing closes the chapter on the life that consistently brought depth and gravitas to the screen.
