Dia Mirza gives gender equality a new direction as she has a woman priest conducting a Hindu wedding

Dia Mirza married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in a close knit ceremony and her wedding ceremony was presided by a woman priest.

Dia Mirza found her way to the headlines lately after the news of her wedding surfaced. The former beauty queen married her beau Vaibhav Rekhi in an intimate ceremony on February 15 in Mumbai which was attended by the couple’s close friends and family members. Interestingly, Dia’s wedding has been making the headlines for more than one reason. While everyone has been in awe of Dia’s bridal look as she wore a red coloured saree with golden border, her wedding rituals grabbed the eyeballs as it smashed patriarchy in a perfect way.

As the new bride shared pics from her big day, we couldn’t help notice a woman priest presiding the wedding. For the uninitiated, a Hindu wedding is always conducted by a male priest who reads the mantra and makes the couple take their nuptial vows. However, Dia and Vaibhav gave a new definition to gender equality as their wedding was presided by a woman priest. Later Dia also expressed her gratitude towards the woman priest Sheela Atta for presiding the ceremony. “Thank you Sheela Atta for conducting our wedding ceremony. So proud that together we can #RiseUp #GenerationEquality,” the actress tweeted.

Meanwhile, talking about Dia, this happens to be the diva’s second wedding. She was earlier married to Sahil Sangha. However, the couple parted ways after being married for over four years. On the hand, Vaibhav, who happens to be a Mumbai based businessman, was also married to yoga and lifestyle coach Sunaina Rekhi. The ex-couple also have a daughter together.
