Mumbai – Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn has shared his excitement and pride as his 14-year-old son Yug Devgan takes his first step into the film industry. Both father and son have lent their voices to the Hindi version of the upcoming Hollywood movie Karate Kid: Legends, set to release on May 30.
In the Hindi dubbed version, Ajay voices the character played by Jackie Chan, while Yug brings Ben Wang’s character to life.
Speaking at the trailer launch event, the 56-year-old actor couldn’t hide his joy:
“I’m extremely proud. When Yug began dubbing, I heard some of his rehearsal takes and they were good enough to be used in the final cut. He asked the technicians if he could call me on WhatsApp to let me hear it. It felt amazing — he sounded so natural and real,” Ajay shared.
Adding a humorous note, Ajay joked about Yug’s sudden professional enthusiasm:
“He started throwing tantrums like a proper actor – ‘I’m working, I’m tired, don’t disturb me!’”
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, Karate Kid: Legends stars Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, and Ben Wang. The film will release in multiple Indian languages — English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Yug, speaking about his first experience behind the mic, admitted,
“It was tricky at first. But I kept learning. My dad is my inspiration in everything I do. I love him and he motivates me constantly.”
Ajay, who is also making his international voice acting debut, called the process “smooth and enjoyable.” Both Devgns are lifelong fans of the Karate Kid franchise, with Ajay recalling watching the original film back in the ’80s.
“I’ve watched all the films, including the Jaden Smith one and Cobra Kai. Jackie Chan has always been a legend to me,” Ajay said.
Karate Kid: Legends promises nostalgia and action, and with Ajay and Yug lending their voices, the Hindi version adds an extra layer of excitement for Indian audiences.
