Hollywood is mourning the loss of rising star Hudson Joseph Meek, known for his role as the younger version of Ansel Elgort’s character in the 2017 film Baby Driver. The 16-year-old actor tragically passed away on December 21, 2024, in Alabama.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Meek succumbed to injuries sustained on December 19 when he fell from a moving vehicle around 10:45 p.m. local time. He was taken to UAB Hospital, where he passed away two days later. Authorities in Vestavia Hills are investigating the incident.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Meek’s Instagram account, his family expressed their grief: “Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight. His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”
The family also announced plans for a Celebration of Life service on December 28 and noted that contributions could be made to a scholarship fund in Meek’s memory at Vestavia Hills High School, where he was a sophomore and a member of the football team.
Beyond his role in Baby Driver, Meek appeared in projects such as MacGyver, Found, and The School Duel. An online obituary described him as a dynamic individual with a magnetic personality: “Hudson’s personality was one of a kind. He was confident, convicted in his beliefs, spontaneous, and quick-witted. He loved friendly banter, was a prankster, and thrived on making others laugh.”
Tributes poured in from those who knew Meek, including his talent agency, J Pervis Talent Agency, which shared, “Hudson was more than just a talent. He was a source of inspiration and touched so many lives with his enthusiasm, kindness, and ability to light up a room.”
Hudson Meek is survived by his parents and older brother. His legacy as a young star with a bright future will continue to inspire many.
