Runway 34 actress Aakanksha Singh on her journey from being a physiotherapist to becoming an actor

She took a leap from being a television actress to acting in movies. After becoming popular with her TV show Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha, Aakanksha Singh was later seen in films like Badrinath Ki Dulhania and a few south projects before landing a role in her upcoming flick Runway 34, that stars Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh and Angira Dhar. But did you know, that though she is pursuing a career in showbiz, Aakanksha hails from the field of medicine? She had studied to become a physiotherapist.

Talking about the switch, she says, “My dad was a Principal, while my mother was a teacher. So, studies were always there in my blood. I always wanted to become a doctor and that is how my medical journey started. However, there was a streak of art in my family too as my mother has been a theatre artist. So, I was keen on becoming a dancer too. It was only after I participated in a play and performed on stage for the first time that I loved the experience. To be performing on stage always made me happy and that’s when I decided to take this route.”

While she did study physiotherapy, but never practiced it professionally, she got to do it on herself recently when she fractured her leg during the shooting of the film. “I did apply all my studies on myself while shooting Runway 34. Also, there have been people on sets who would come to me for quick suggestions every time they got hurt (Laughs).”

As she looks back at her journey, Aakanksha feels happy the way things shaped up with her in terms of her career. She shares, “I am very fortunate and grateful with the kind of roles that have come to me. I want to take up interesting characters and the medium doesn’t matter to me. Also, language has never been a barrier for me. I am happy that I started off my journey doing theatre and I am totally happy with my career graph. Every day in showbiz is like an achievement for me.”
