MOVIE REVIEW:

The screenplay by Peter Dexter and director Jrmie Guez, based on the work of Peter Dexter, revolves around a man who will find himself involved in the stories of his mafia family. He will then have to make choices that he does not like.

The story is based on Philadelphia and shows the complex relationships between different characters and the balance of power between the various families dealing with the troubled affairs of the city. As a gang war looms, a certain balance is threatened.

The directing of Jrmie Guez et pre and without compromise. The latter honors the city where the plot is located as well as its main protagonists. It is through a beautiful series of flashbacks that we gradually learn the links between the main character and his family and what has happened to him in the past.

The film is gloomy, although there are moments of luminosity that give hope for a better future for some of the protagonists. The production of a few emblematic scenes is particularly striking and they remain in the mind for a long time. The more so as the violence, the latent conflicts and the personalities of the characters are regularly moved.

The atmosphere is very important. She is often thoughtful, while the main protagonist shares with the viewer her state of mind and the way in which events increasingly affect her choices and awareness.

It is Matthias Schoenaerts who embodies it. And this one is really great as a quiet man who just wants to live his life. The actor is extremely brilliant and brings a great personality to an entire individual who is found shared between the different parties. Joel Kinnaman is formidable leader of the unstable mafia wanting to stretch his territory. Maika Monroe is likeable as a young woman finding herself caught in the middle of this gang war.

The composition of Sverin Favriau is pleasant and goes well with the beautiful photography of Menno Mans which brings a real dimension to the city of Philadelphia.

Sons of Philadelphia is a good film dealing in an interesting way with family, notions of right and wrong, and of life. With a story on several levels, a beautiful production, very good actors and an important atmosphere, the work does not leave you indifferent and makes you think about the concept of family.
