Darsheel Safary Reflects on Bollywood’s Silence After His Iconic Debut
Darsheel Safary, who captured hearts across the nation with his moving portrayal of Ishaan in Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par (2007), has opened up about the harsh reality he faced after the film’s success. Despite receiving immense critical acclaim and becoming a household name, the support he expected from the film industry never truly arrived.
In a candid conversation with News18, Darsheel revealed the emotional challenges he endured as a young actor navigating Bollywood’s often harsh landscape.
“You need to understand when to block out certain information. People will talk about everything, but you can’t shut everybody’s mouth,” he said, subtly addressing rumors and planted news stories that circulated about him post-success. “I can’t go into the details of what’s being said about me, but it has definitely affected me.”
While he refrains from directly criticizing the industry, Darsheel acknowledged feeling left out.
“I would never even think about the fact that Bollywood didn’t back me more. Who am I for them to back me? I am not their saga bhai. I just need to have talent and strength. I worked hard for that. It emotionally hurts thinking about such stuff, honestly, and derails you from your work.”
Despite starring in subsequent films like Zokkomon and Bumm Bumm Bole, the recognition never reached the heights of his debut. However, the young actor has remained committed to his craft, slowly carving out a space for himself on his own terms.
