Shah Rukh Khan wins the Pardo Alla Carriera award at the Locarno Film Festival, telling Italian fans, “No creativity without love.”

Shah Rukh Khan mesmerized the audience and festival organizers with a heartfelt and witty speech at the Locarno Film Festival.

At the 77th Locarno Film Festival, Shah Rukh Khan enchanted Italian fans and festival organizers with his charismatic presence and heartfelt speech as he received a career achievement honor. Clad in a sleek black tuxedo, Khan charmed the audience with his trademark wit and also took the time to greet fans eager to see him.

Beginning his speech, Khan expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, humorously comparing Locarno’s charm and heat to India. “Thank you all for such a warm welcome – even wider than my on-screen hugs. Locarno is beautiful, cultural, and hot, much like home in India,” he remarked. When a fan shouted “I love you,” Khan responded, “I love you too. Let’s keep the dramatics to a minimum; we need to sound intellectual here at the festival,” adding, “My day has been great, the food delicious, and my Italian and cooking skills are improving.” He jokingly noted in Italian, “I’m learning to cook pasta and pizza here in Locarno.”

Reflecting on the essence of art and creativity, Khan stated, “Art is about affirming life and transcending boundaries. It doesn’t need to be political, polemical, or preachy. Art and cinema should express heartfelt truth, and that’s true creativity.” He further emphasized, “There is no creativity without love, a universal language understood worldwide. For me, creativity, love, and joy are interconnected.”

Summarizing his diverse career, Khan quipped, “I’ve been a villain, a hero, a superhero, a zero, a rejected fan, and a resilient lover.” He humorously added, “I can’t quite pronounce this award, but I appreciate it as the Leopard Award for being awesome in humility and kindness.”

Concluding his speech in Hindi, he expressed deep gratitude: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart and from India. Namashkaar and dhanyawaad (Hello and thank you). God bless you all.”

In honor of his career, the festival also screened Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 film Devdas. Looking ahead, Shah Rukh Khan will appear in Sujoy Ghosh’s The King, alongside his daughter Suhana Khan.
