Karakkam Heads to OTT

Sreenath Bhasi’s latest film Karakkam, which mixes horror, comedy, and music, hit theatres on May 28. After receiving mixed reviews, the movie is now preparing for its digital release.

Where to Stream Karakkam

The makers have confirmed that karakkam will stream on Sony LIV in July 2026. Announcing the update, Sony LIV teased audiences with: “Get ready for a genre-bending ride. Horror, comedy, music all in one”.

A Story Born from Recklessness

The plot follows Dhanush, played by Sreenath Bhasi, and his friend Khaja, portrayed by Praveen T.J. Their drunken hostel altercation leads them to a cemetery, where they remove crosses from five graves. Consequently, their reckless act awakens five spirits. As the ghosts chase them, the duo face fear, humor, and chaos in equal measure. Director Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian attempts to give the horror-comedy genre a fresh spin through this premise.

Visual Style Praised

ETimes praised the film’s unique portrayal of ghosts. Unlike traditional Malayalam cinema spirits, these apparitions are colorful, performative, and tied to a past world of bar dancers and rock-star energy. Their disco-like costumes, exaggerated stage presence, and musical flair create a supernatural identity that feels different from the usual horror-comedy template.

Cast and Crew

The film features Sreenath Bhasi as Dhanush and Femina George as Pinki. Supporting roles are played by Praveen T.J., Abhira, Radhakrishnan, Shaun Romy, Manikandan R, Achari, and Sidharth Bharathan. The screenplay was written by Subhash Lalitha Subhrahmanian, Nipin Narayanan, and Arju Narayanan, based on a story by Dhanush Varghese. Additionally, Sam C.S. composed the songs and background score.
