Bruce Willis’ Striking Distance Finds New Life on Netflix

Bruce Willis’ 1993 action thriller Striking Distance is back in the spotlight, climbing to No.3 on Netflix’s U.S. movie charts three decades after flopping at the box office. The film has even outperformed newer releases like Apex and Swapped, showing how forgotten titles can thrive in the streaming era.

Streaming platforms often revive overlooked films, giving audiences a chance to discover them. Nostalgia for gritty 1990s action flicks and renewed interest in Willis’ catalog after his retirement have also fueled the comeback.

Rowdy Herrington directed the movie, with Willis playing Pittsburgh detective Tom Hardy, who fights corruption while tracking a serial killer tied to his father’s death. The cast included Sarah Jessica Parker, Dennis Farina, Tom Sizemore, and John Mahoney. Despite the talent, the production faced heavy reshoots and rising costs. With a $30 million budget and a $77 million global box office, the film fell short of expectation at the time.

Now, 33 years later, Striking Distance enjoys a surprising second act, proving streaming audiences can rewrite a film’s legacy.
