Jackie Chan on Rush Hour 4: ‘Hurry Up Before We’re Too Old!’

Fans of the Rush Hour franchise have reason to get excited — Jackie Chan just reignited the hype. The martial arts legend and beloved actor recently shared his thoughts on the long-rumored Rush Hour 4, hinting that time is running out if Hollywood wants to bring back the iconic duo.

During a press event for his upcoming film Karate Kid: Legends, the 71-year-old star reflected on his journey with the Rush Hour trilogy. He got candid about what made the films special and why the wait for a fourth movie is becoming a race against time.

When asked to pick his favorite film from the series, Chan chuckled before offering an honest and revealing take:

“The first one: little money, little time. We shot it like, ‘Go, go, go, go!’ The second one: a lot of money, a lot of time. The third one: too much money, too much time. Too much money is no good.”

His words point to a deeper truth — that the raw energy and low-budget hustle of the original Rush Hour might have been the secret sauce behind its success. Bigger budgets and longer timelines may have taken away some of that magic.

On the topic of Rush Hour 4, Chan didn’t give away any major updates — but his message was clear and full of urgency:

“Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.”

It’s a comment that’s both amusing and pressing. While Jackie and Chris Tucker have both expressed interest in returning to their roles, fans know the clock is ticking. Back in 2022, Chan confirmed that a fourth film was in development, with Tucker adding that the new installment would be on a “whole other level.”

Tucker said:

“You’re going to see a lot of good stuff coming. Rush Hour 4 is definitely something I want to drop in there — I love working with Jackie.”

The franchise, originally directed by Brett Ratner, became a global hit by pairing Jackie Chan’s disciplined Hong Kong detective with Chris Tucker’s quick-witted LAPD officer. The chemistry, comedy, and action turned it into a pop culture phenomenon. However, Ratner’s departure from Hollywood due to controversy has been a major roadblock in moving forward with a sequel.

Despite the hurdles, Chan seems optimistic. His recent remarks at the Karate Kid: Legends red carpet show he’s still got love for the franchise and is willing to return — if the pieces fall into place soon.

While there’s still no official greenlight for Rush Hour 4, Jackie Chan’s comments have reignited hope that one more wild ride with Lee and Carter could still be in the cards.
