Renowned filmmaker Rohit Shetty, known for directing blockbuster hits like Singham Again and Sooryavanshi, recently shared candid thoughts on the current generation of actors. In an interview with casting director Mukesh Chhabra for Mashable India, Shetty expressed concerns about younger actors’ growing insecurities and their fixation on social media.
Young Actors and Social Media: A Reality Check
Shetty, who has worked with industry veterans such as Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar, praised Ajay Devgn as a “secure actor” who allows his co-stars to shine. However, when it came to younger actors, Shetty didn’t hold back.
“The new stars are insecure people. They are too much into social media, which is not the real world,” Shetty remarked. He pointed out that a significant portion of the digital buzz, including followers and articles, is artificially created through paid promotions. “Buying followers or having paid articles won’t help after two years. Ultimately, you will have to prove yourself on the big screen, not on the mobile screen,” he added.
Advice to Overcome Fear of Failure
Shetty also offered valuable advice to the new generation of actors, urging them to let go of their fear of failure and focus on their craft. Reflecting on the career trajectory of Salman Khan, Shetty shared an example: “When Salman’s movies were not working, he did Jeet with Sunny Deol. He just saw it as an opportunity to move forward in his career.”
He lamented that the willingness to take risks and seize opportunities is fading among young stars. “People are scared of failure… and the moment this fear goes, there will be progress,” Shetty asserted.
The Success of Singham Again
Shetty’s remarks come on the heels of the success of his latest film, Singham Again. The movie, which is the third installment in the Singham series and the fifth film in Shetty’s Cop Universe, has emerged as a box office blockbuster.
The director’s Cop Universe, which includes hits like Simmba and Sooryavanshi, continues to expand, cementing his reputation as one of Bollywood’s most successful filmmakers.
As Shetty celebrates his recent success, his words of wisdom serve as a reminder to young actors that true stardom lies in authenticity, hard work, and resilience—qualities that transcend the fleeting trends of the digital age.
