Katy Perry announces her new single ‘Lifetimes’ follows the release of her previous single, ‘Woman’s World’
Katy Perry has announced that her new single, “Lifetimes,” will be released on August 9.
The single will be accompanied by a music video that promises to showcase Perry’s latest creative vision, as reported by Deadline. She revealed the release date by sharing the cover art for “Lifetimes,” which features her holding a futuristic heart.
“Lifetimes” follows her previous single, “Woman’s World,” which was the lead track from her upcoming sixth studio album, “143.”
Despite its initial promise, “Woman’s World” had a challenging debut, entering the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 63 and the Global 200 at No. 65.
The track’s reception was notably influenced by Dr. Luke, Perry’s former collaborator who faces allegations of sexual misconduct from his former artist Kesha.
The music video for “Woman’s World,” intended as an ironic take on female empowerment, received criticism for being perceived as heavy-handed.
Perry responded to the backlash, saying, “We’re having fun, being sarcastic with it, it’s very slapstick and very on the nose, it’s like a reset for me and for my idea of the feminine divine.”
As for “143,” Perry has yet to reveal the full tracklist but has teased some tracks during live-stream sessions on Instagram and TikTok.
Potential songs include “I’m His He’s Mine” featuring Doechii, “Gimme Gimme” featuring 21 Savage, and “Nirvana.”
It has been nearly four years since her last album, “Smile,” released in August 2020. That album, which featured singles like “Daisies” and the title track, was her lowest-performing album in years, debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, according to Deadline.
