The king’s surrender turns his daughter’s marriage into a bargaining chip for peace negotiations. Her brother must find his way through a treacherous road filled with heartbreak and revenge while shouldering the future of his kingdom as events spin out of control.

The dramatic performance skillfully blends elements from both ancient traditions and present-day sensibilities. Sutradhar takes elements from Mahabharata and the traditions of Natyashastra along with Greek Classics and Japanese Noh theatre to create an immersive experience where music meets dance and drama in a timeless cultural fusion.

“Sutradhar,” the title which stands for ‘the one who holds the strings,’ depicts the role of a puppet master guiding other people’s destinies. This provocative work challenges audiences with the question: “At some point in our lives do we all play both the puppeteer and the marionette?” Through its exploration of power dynamics and human destiny the play examines the delicate boundary between dominance and submission.
