In another sign of life returning to normality since the COVID-19 pandemic in Qatar, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Thursday said restaurants located in tourist areas can start providing shisha services outdoors from Sunday (October 3).
The announcement comes after the Cabinet approved the fourth phase of lifting COVID-19 restrictions, which include further easing of curbs on restaurants and cafes.
In line with Wednesday’s Cabinet decision, the ministry said restaurants and cafes with a “Clean Qatar” certificate can provide dine-in services at 75 percent capacity indoors and at full capacity outdoors.
Restaurants and cafes that meet the conditions determined by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry can now provide dine-in services at 40 percent capacity indoors and 50 percent outdoors. Children under 12 years of age, but accompanied by their families, are allowed in closed spaces.
The ministry said restaurants should ensure a safe space of at least 2 metres around each individual or group of customers.
Restaurants and cafes in open spaces:
• Allowing 100% capacity for restaurants and cafes that have a Qatar Clean Program certification.
• Allowing a capacity not exceeding 50% for the rest of the restaurants and cafes.
Restaurants and cafes in closed spaces:
• Allowing a capacity not exceeding 75% for restaurants and cafes that have a Qatar Clean Program certification.
• Allowing a capacity not exceeding 40% for the rest of the restaurants and cafes.
• All customers must have received all COVID-19 vaccine doses, and children under the age of 12 are allowed entry only when accompanied by their families.
Shisha services may be offered in open spaces of tourist areas only.
Making visitors aware of the need to maintain a safe distance of at least two meters.
These instructions come into effect as of Sunday, October 3, 2021, and may be subject to amendments and updates, according to the latest developments in this regard.
